I took the opportunity of the WSUP Breakfast to wander a couple of streets further along to Fleet Street on my way back to the train to see the ‘pissing plates’, or more politely ‘urine deflectors’ in Clifford’s Inn passageway.
Designed, we understand, to discourage passers by in the early nineteenth century from urinating along the walls of the alleyway as the urine would splash back on their clothes!
